Breast health care is a way to learn more about your own breasts and check for changes over time. They can be a helpful way to identify any concerns or problems early on.

Checking your breasts yourself is not difficult and can be done anytime. After your period ends or a week after your period starts, depending on when your breasts are at their best. Doing Your Own Breast Health Care

The first part is inspection: you look at your breasts and identify any lumps, scars, or other abnormalities. The second part is palpation: you feel your breasts to see if they’re firm, smooth, and elastic.

Every time we have to do breast health care, examine three breast parts: outer, middle, and inner. The outer is the skin, the middle is the muscle, and the inner is the fatty tissue and organs. First, we examine the underarm to the collarbone area. Then from the collarbone to the bra underline. And finally from the bra underline to the middle area: the breast itself and finally to the inside: the nipple area.

1. Relax your upper body and take a bath.

2. Check your body alignment in the mirror and adjust accordingly.

3. Put your hands on your waist and lean forward slightly to check.

4. Then check again!

Palpation is the act of feeling and touching. You can do it in the bath or after the bath. When you are in the bath, stand up. If you do the breast after the bath, use the three methods: concentric circles (circles), up and down (lines), and radial touch (wedges). There are three options: Use all three.

 

The Three Methods Of Touch

We will learn three different methods of touch so that you can decide which one is easiest and most comfortable for you. Breast self-examination is a simple way to check for any problems and is particularly important if you’re pregnant. To do a breast self-exam, press gently on each breast area using three different pressures: light, medium, and firm. Use one hand to maintain pressure and the other hand to move from side to side. With light pressure, feel for any bumps, lumps, or anything else out of the ordinary. Using moderate pressure, feel for anything that feels firm. Then use heavy pressure, feel for anything that feels soft or bruises easily.

 

The first method:

Touch with concentric circles, we will start from the outermost side of the breast (the largest circle), and move your hand along the breast to touch clockwise. Keep your hand at the same height and move it in a circular motion. Repeat on the other side.

Gradually move towards the nipple (the center point of the breast) one, two, three, four. First, raise the left hand, and use the right hand to start from the outer edge of the breast with gentle pressure one, two then, medium pressure. Move the hand in a circular motion. For greater intensity, you can use both hands at the same time. If you want to use less intensity, you can just use one hand. Slide your hands towards the nipple, gradually moving towards it in a circular motion. Use either your hands or just one if you want to use less intensity.

Finally, Heavy pressure one, two move clockwise to the next area using gentle, medium, and heavy pressure until you reach the nipple. Don’t forget to use the pads of your fingers and repeat the exercise with your left hand at three different pressures. One, two, one, two until you reach the nipple. Lastly, use gentle, medium, and heavy pressure to move clockwise to the next area. Second touch method:

Make small circles with the cloth around your nipple then use your other hand to gently push down on the circles to improve circulation. Now let’s use a wet cloth to wipe our breasts starting from the armpit with gentle, medium, and heavy pressure moving down, up, down, up on the other breast, repeat the above steps up, down.

 

The third touch method:

Radial touch (recommended) Think of your breasts as clocks from the outermost side of the breast (12 o’clock), move your fingers to the nipple (clock center point) Then go back to the outer, again towards the center point. Make circular motions around the areola. Let’s take it step by step until we complete the circles one, two, three, four, five, and six in a clockwise direction and then touch on our nipples. With gentle, medium, and heavy pressure from 12, nipples, 1, nipples, two, nipples, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, and twelve.

On the other breast, repeat steps three, and four, all the way to twelve. Just remember these few simple steps!
